This 11-year-old Staoisha is a peated single malt scotch whisky from Bunnahabhain distillery on Islay. This Staoisha single malt was distilled in 2013 and matured in a refill cask before being transferred to a first fill tawny port wine barrique in 2020.
Representing the white pawn, “a2” is the second limited edition release in the Chess series. The term pawn is derived from the Old French word “paon”, which comes from the Medieval Latin term for “foot soldier”. Throughout the history of the game, the pawn has represented other occupations and taken other names in multiple languages. While it is typically seen as the weakest piece on the board, its importance to the game, from simple strategy to its potential to be promoted to any other piece on the board, demonstrates the integral part it plays in chess.
This label for our inaugural series is designed by Toronto-based artist Alexander Perkins, who continues to amaze friends, family and everyone else with his world-class talent. We can't wait to see what piece he'll bring to the board next.
This Staoisha is non-chill filtered and naturally coloured, yielding 259 bottles at a cask strength of 62.3% ABV.
