Founded in the early 1900s near Port of Spain, Caroni was one of Trinidad's most storied rum distilleries, benefitting from a number of different factors including housing both column and pot stills which meant a wider variety of rums could be produced. The sugar cane industry and the number of distilleries on the island dwindled towards the end of the 20th century and, eventually, Caroni shut its doors in the early 2000s. This 25-year-old Caroni was distilled in 1998.
The label is designed by Trinidad-based artist, Esther Griffith. Working primarily with oils, Esther explores the visual language of colour and form in the portraits she paints. We were drawn to the vibrancy of the colours and the richness of the texture in the label, feeling like it evoked the true spirit of the Caroni in the bottle.
This single barrel rum is non-chill filtered with no additives, yielding 208 bottles at a cask strength of 59.6% ABV.
