Off the western coast of Scotland lies the Isle of Mull, the home of Tobermory distillery, makers of Ledaig peated spirit. This Ledaig single malt was distilled in 2010 and matured in a refill hogshead for just over 11 years, before being transferred into a first fill Mizunara hogshead for finishing in 2023.
The cask has been bottled in collaboration with New Whisky Order, under their Gun Chrìochan series, inspired by the group’s ethos of building community around sharing exceptional whisky across all borders. This first release is adorned with a unique symbol, created in the style of the Pictish Crescent and V-Rod. The Picts inhabited Scotland for hundreds of years, starting in the late Roman period, before mysteriously disappearing from the record around 1000AD. Along with their beautifully rendered material culture, they also left evidence all over Scotland in sculpted rock art. These varied and enigmatic symbols have inspired us to study the carvings and create our own versions, to honour the Pictish legacy and connect us to the same lands that produce some of the best whisky in the world.
We are excited for this collaboration with a team that we have bonded with over hours of samples and discussions, building our sense of community with like-minded and like-valued people.
