Situated in the south-eastern corner of Grenada, Westerhall distillery's history dates back to the early 1700s. Known as the "Spice Isle" the waters of Grenada are naturally infused with spices and flavours that bring a unique quality to its rum. This 27-year-old Westerhall (GMWE) was distilled in 1996, making this one of the last vintages crafted prior to the distillery ceasing operations. It was aged at origin for 11 years in American Oak, before being transferred into refill oak for an additional year and then transported to Europe where it matured for an additional 15 years.
This cask was bottled in collaboration with Rum Club Canada. RCC continues to advocate for the education and sharing of great rum across Canada. Both we and RCC are excited to share this cask with you, and we feel this evokes the rich history and unique qualities of this distillery.
As its first cask selection, RCC was adamant that this had to be the right cask. We spent many nights bonding over samples and tasting notes, searching far and wide for the perfect bottling. We knew when we finally landed on the right cask, which for us is a rum that is rare, interesting and, at the same time, approachable and accessible. We hope you agree!
This single barrel rum is non-chill filtered with no additives, yielding 233 bottles at a cask strength of 56.0% ABV.
